Capella Medical Devices Ltd’s main focus is on developing a solution for solving Coronary Bifurcated Disease. The Company was formed in 2005 by leading interventionalsit Antonio Columbo, director of investigational angioplasty at Lenox Hill Hospital and also the principal investigator of the sirolimus bifurcation study for Johnson & Johnson’s Cypher DES, and by serial device entrepreneur Ascher Shmulewitz, a cardiologist and electronic engineer, who earlier in his career founded and led NeoVision, Xcaria and Labcoat Ltd.

Cappella Medical Devices Ltd currently employs a total of 35 people between Ireland and the United States. The Irish facility is based in Ballybrit Industrial Estate, Galway which is the hub of the company’s research and development centre. The company is heavily focused on the R&D/engineering aspect of the device and is currently developing devices that can be coated with drugs and used to treat injuries in the branches of blood vessels, rather than the main vessels.
